Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion

"When we're talking about diversity it's not a box to check. It is a reality that should be deeply felt and held and valued by all of us." — Ava DuVernay

Monterra Credit Union's DEI statement

Diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) are integral to Monterra Credit Union's core values and culture. We are committed to creating and upholding a safe space for people of all color, genders, abilities, and identities, and we actively promote DEI to our team members by providing learning opportunities, celebrating different cultures and holidays, and ensuring equitable policies and practices. These efforts help us create a culture of inclusion for employees and members, which we are committed to evolving.

Our team members reflect the diverse communites we serve as we hire locally and promote from within, and we work to maintain workplaces that are welcoming to all. We value the unique experiences and talents our employees bring to the organization and encourage all to share their different perspectives and listen and learn from each other.

We offer our members a wide rang of products and services to meet the diverse financial needs of the communities we serve and consider peoples' unique situation and support them. We also provide financial education resources and training both in-person and online, focusing on underserved communities.

Simply put, at Monterra Credit Union, we consciously foster a diverse, equitable, and inclusive workplace and leverage this diversity to help us achieve our mission of helping our members and communities achieve their financial goals.

Our Efforts

Monterra Credit Union began formalizing our decades-long commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusin in 2020 and began looking for opportunities to improve our practices, celebrate our differences, and create an even more equitable workplace.

In 2021, we found our DEI Committee, made up of enthusiastic employees from our branches and corporate office - all dedicated to giving back and finding more opportunities for equity and inclusion for our employees, community, and members.

Within the past few years, we have made donations to organizations including the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP), Black Lives Matter, Hate is a Virus, Asian Americans Advancing Justice (AAAJ), the San Mateo County Pride Center, the Bay Area Women's Center, and Dress for Success, San Francisco among others. We have also been members of the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) with regular donations since 2020.

We are excited for these and more initiatives to come!
